Feeding the Desire

In this world there are many things that attract our attention, things with which we are confronted daily, or those which are made known by television, radio and other media. Everyone reacts when confronted by these various aspects of life: sports, arts, politics, science, religion, etc. Often, their initial reaction of acceptance is followed by an expression interest, asking others about these topics to learn more about them. This happens with all of us, both with those that are Christians and those that are not.

You often see someone talking about sports with great zeal, and demonstrating an ability to know about them, and enjoying the discussion of them at all times: at work, with acquaintances, over meals, etc. And then, spending many hours in front of the T.V., he is ready to chew out anyone who would try to distract him. He does all of this, willingly, to feed his desire.

All Christians should have the same attitude towards God. Talking about Him, and incessantly discussing the Bible at work and at home: not because of an obligation, but because of a desire ? of their own free will. Because the things which Christians possess are more precious than some game, in which a bunch of people chase a ball. They are more precious than the sound of an instrument. More so than any movie or the news. We have God, and His Son, our Lord Jesus, His Holy Spirit, His love, His miracles, all of which fill us with enormous joy. We have the gift of eternal life, and the Bible, which is full of truth and good news, with which we can build our lives like a solid fortress.

All these things are a marvel to us, giving us the power to live, having a treasure which makes each and every one of us rich. This treasure is ours, if we only reach out our hand and take it. May we enrich ourselves and enjoy that, which God has prepared for us from the dawn of time, and is happy to give to us.

Let us get to know Him more and ignore all that distracts us from our devotion to Him.

As Paul admonished us, "Till I come, give attendance to reading, to exhortation, to doctrine. Neglect not the gift that is in thee, which was given thee by prophecy, with the laying on of the hands of the presbytery. Meditate upon these things; give thyself wholly to them; that thy profiting may appear to all. Take heed unto thyself, and unto the doctrine; continue in them: for in doing this thou shalt both save thyself, and them that hear thee. (1 Tim. 4:13-16)
