Seize the Day

Everyday, in the news, we are told of tragic events that have ended the lives of people from every walk of life. From the 41-year-old that was ?too young? to die of a heart attack, to the 11 people that recently were casualties of a terrible train wreck.

Automobile accidents take many lives daily, as do freak accidents that any other time would never be fatal. Truth be told, we never know when ?our time? is. Two sisters, 18 and 16, in our area were involved in a car accident on their way home from work. The young 16-year-old was killed. She had no idea that that day was to be her last in this life. At eight years old, she had no clue that she had already approached ?middle age.?

The Bible declares, "Ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away." (Jas. 4:14)

Lacking in most of today?s "progressive" Christian circles is the old-time "fire and brimstone" preaching of the energetic evangelists that used to paint the horrific picture of life without Christ, and, most importantly, death without Him. "Hell" has dropped from the sermon content, and we have lost the feeling of urgency to not go there.

Again, the Bible says, "It is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment." (Heb. 9:27) It is God?s will that we accept Jesus Christ as out Lord and Savior, and obtain eternal life. Not only so, but that we would truly live in this life, for one does not truly have life, abundant life, until he or she finds the Source of life.

One of the most-quoted Scriptures of the Bible is found in John 3:16, "For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life."

At this time, the time of Passover, let us be reminded that Christ came to die for our sins. We needn?t suffer the second death of the lake of fire, for God has provided an exit for us. One of the easiest things that a person can do is accept Christ. It doesn?t require any rituals, or any more animal sacrifices. The price has been paid.

It?s like having a coupon. The coupon reads, "Redeemable at store XYZ." Some have an expiration date. As long as that coupon stays in your pocket, it gains you nothing. If it expires, it is of no value. You have to go to the store and use it to gain the benefit.

Christ has paid the price for your sins. If you never accept this sacrifice, you will die in your sins and face the judgement. Conversely, accepting the sacrifice is so simple. First, we realize that none of us is righteous on our own (Rom. 3:10), and that we all have sinned and come short of the glory of God (Rom.3:23).

The next step, is to understand that God showed us His love for us, in that, while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. (Rom. 5:8) Paul told the Romans that "the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord." (Rom. 6:23)

Paul went on to say, "Whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved." (Rom. 10:13) Christ wants you to take the next step, and let Him into your heart. He is saying, "Behold I stand at the door and knock: if any man hear My voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with Me." (Rev. 3:20)

It is up to you to seize the day. The next step is yours, friend, and is found in Romans 10:9-10, "If thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised Him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation."

No one knows, this may be your last day. Seize it! If you have not accepted Jesus yet, this is your chance. No one can do it for you. All you need is to talk to God, acknowledging your sins and confessing with your mouth that Jesus? death has paid for them and redeemed you from them to the Father.

You do not have to face the Lake of Fire. Eternal life has been purchased for you. The next step is yours.
